Sustainable aviation fuels meet just 1 per cent of demand

Kerosene made from sustainable fuel sources can currently meet just one per cent of global demand for aviation fuel.

Speaking at the Aero Friedrichshafen trade fair towards the end of April, Markus Fischer, Divisional Board Member for Aeronauticsat the German Aerospace Centre (DLF) noted that sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) were also up to seven times more expensive than traditional kerosene. These biofuels are made out of used cooking oil or meat and fish waste, Mr Fischer added.
