Post-consumer PET bottles and metal drinks cans on a conveyor belt
Sweden's Returpack deposit return system for beverage packaging was launched in 1984.

More than 3 billion PET bottles and aluminium beverage cans were returned through Sweden’s deposit return system (DRS) last year, according to system operator Returpack/Pantamera. This new record represents an increase of around 130 million units year on year.

The return rate rose to 88.4 per cent from 87.6 per cent in 2024, bringing the country a step closer to achieving the national target of 90 per cent....
