Synpet Technologies unveils plans to build chemical recycling facility at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges

The Belgian-Turkish company Synpet Technologies intends to build its first commercial-scale recycling plant at the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, investing €300m in the project. Once completed, the facility, which will be based on Synpet’s proprietary thermal conversion technology, is to process 250,000 tonnes of unprocessed mixed plastics waste annually, turning it into recycled raw materials, including a "circular naphtha substitute".

Synpet’s website states that the plant is to be capable of producing around 100,000 tonnes of the naphtha alternative each year. The recycling facility is slated to start operations in the second half of 2028, Synpet said in late October. According to a press release, the project is expected to create more than 100 direct and indirect jobs.
