Two bidders submit proposals for Abu Dhabi wte plant

Two consortia are now competing for the contract to build a waste to energy plant in Abu Dhabi. According the emirate's utility company EWEC and its waste management company Tadweer, their proposals will now undergo a detailed technical and commercial evaluation before one of the two is selected to develop the greenfield Abu Dhabi Waste-to-Energy Independent Power Project (IPP). The environmental group Suez is a member of one of the selected consortia, the engineering company Hitachi Zosen Inova is a member of the other.

Last year, a waste to energy plant went into operation in Sharjah, another of the UAE's emirates. It has a treatment capacity of 300,00 tonnes per year. In neighbouring Dubai, another energy from waste (EfW) facility, the Dubai Waste Management Centre (DWMC) received its first shipment of waste in April, with the first waste fire scheduled for May.
