Viridor proposes shutdown of Quantafuel chemical recycling activities

Viridor has proposed shutting down its chemical recycling operations in Northern Europe. The British waste management company argues that weak demand, regulatory uncertainty and competition from low-cost virgin plastics have rendered advanced plastics recycling "commercially uninvestable without policy changes".

The group said on 12 May that it intends to cease operations at its Quantafuel plastics-to-liquids (Ptl) pyrolysis facility in Skive, Denmark, as well as related activities in Malmö, Sweden, and Oslo, Norway, subject to local consultation and negotiation processes. Malmö hosts laboratory and pilot-scale testing activities supporting the wider Quantafuel network, while Oslo houses central engineering, project management and other group functions....
