Hydrogen Transition Energy (HTE) has submitted a planning application to Kent County Council for what it describes as the UK’s first commercial waste-to-hydrogen facility. It is to be built near Manston International Airport in Broadstairs.
The company said the future plant would cost around £120m to develop, the equivalent to around €139m. It would process non-recyclable commercial and industrial waste into hydrogen fuel, captured carbon dioxide and aggregate products. In an earlier statement about the project, HTE described the input material as household and commercial non-recyclable waste, but automotive shredder residues (ASR), car tyres, timber and used wind turbine blades were also named as possible input materials in the company's permit application....
