North America's market leader Waste Management, Inc. posted "another year of exceptional results" in 2024, according to CEO Jim Fish. At the group's earnings presentation last week, Mr Fish attributed the strong performance to improvements in WM's core business, the expansion of its sustainability platforms, and last year's acquisition of Stericycle. This transaction added medical waste management services and secure information destruction solutions to its the company's portfolio. The deal with a value of $7.2bn, equivalent to approximately €6.9bn, closed in November. The Stericycle activities now operate as WM Heathcare Solutions.
For the calendar year 2024, Waste Management reported revenues of $22.1bn (ca. €21.6bn), an 8 per cent increase compared to $20.4bn for the prior year. In addition to the Stericycle acquisition, higher market prices for recycled commodities had also contributed to revenue growth, according to the group's earnings statement....
