A "sustainable methanol" project in Stenungsund near Gothenburg, Sweden is to receive €97m in EU subsidies. Project Air, a collaboration involving the chemicals company Perstorp, along with energy companies Fortum and Uniper, was selected as one of 17 large-scale projects for financial support from the EU Innovation Fund.
Altogether, the Fund will provide these green-tech projects with over €1.8bn in subsidies. Perstorp, Fortum and Uniper are expected to invest over €230m in Project Air. The companies backing the initiative described the project as a gamechanger for the chemical industry, allowing it to move from fossil-based raw materials to recycled and bio-based feedstock, and enabling the manufacturing of sustainable chemical products for a large number of industries and end products....
