Zero Waste Europe opposes indsutry calls to postpone application of PPWR

Environmental NGO Zero Waste Europe (ZWE) has strongly criticised a recent call from businesses in the packaging value chain to delay the implementation of the EU’s Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), warning that such moves would undermine both legal certainty and environmental objectives.

ZWE's statement is a response to a joint letter reportedly sent by a broad coalition of brand owners and packaging value chain companies to EU institutions last week, in which executives urged the European Commission to postpone the application of the key provisions of the Regulation and carry out a targeted review of the legislation.

According to the text of the letter that was obtained by "Packaging Europe", the signatories argued that "significant legal uncertainty" remains and that businesses lack sufficient time to prepare ahead of the PWWR's 12 August 2026 application date....
