British recovered paper prices stayed high in June amidst persistently robust demand and low collection volumes. Market sources reported considerable mark-ups for woodfree grades, while price cuts looked to be on the horizon for mass grades in July.
Demand for old corrugated containers (OCC, 1.05) was excellent across the board again in June. Although Asian paper manufacturers were very reluctant to place orders, insiders reported a rush from buyers in Continental Europe, and especially in Germany. British and Turkish buyers were very active on the market, as well. "At the moment, European mills have replaced Asian buyers as price leaders because collection volumes in mainland Europe are evidently pathetic," one expert remarked....
