There was little movement on the French recovered paper market in February. Supply and demand for ordinary grades were relatively steady and prices remained stable. The same was true for deinking grades, although demand from abroad is still described as very weak. On occasion, prices for individual higher grades softened by a few euros, but the rest of the quotes were unchanged.
Despite recent market chatter about a possible price increase for ordinary recovered paper grades, mixed paper and board (1.02), supermarket paper and board (1.04) and old corrugated containers (OCC, 1.05) continued to be traded at January's price levels in February.
Most of the market participants surveyed said conditions were not conducive to mark-ups for recovered paper and board. The market was described as quite balanced. Demand for ordinary grades was in line with the currently typical level and stable compared with January, EUWID was told. There were no significant downtimes in the paper industry reported. If OCC could not be sold within France, it could be exported to Asia, so there was no downward price pressure, either.
