EUWID system continues to provide reliable coverage of recovered paper price developments

The German recovered paper market was again very volatile last year. Prices of the ordinary grades initially rose steadily until the summer, before slumping rapidly in autumn. Despite the very dynamic developments in 2022, feedback from the waste management, recycling and paper manufacturing sectors confirms that the EUWID reporting system for the German recovered paper market reliably tracked monthly price trends last year.

"Due to the energy crisis, 2022 was an extremely challenging year for companies in the recovered paper value chain. In spite of production interruptions in the paper industry and the resulting inventory accumulation, the recycling sector ensured the continued functioning of a circular economy for the recovered paper material stream,” commented Andreas Bruckschen, managing director of the German waste management association BDE. "In such times of crisis, it is necessary to have a reliable index that works in volatile markets. The EUWID recovered paper price index demonstrated once again its ability to do this. It is quite rightly the key reference value that all market participants look to,” Mr Bruckschen added.

In the view of Die Papierindustrie, the association representing the German paper industry, the EUWID system has become a "very good market instrument” to track recovered paper prices in Germany thanks to its broad reporting basis, including both suppliers and paper mills. With the help of experts from the German waste management and paper industry associations who advise EUWID, "the system is also continuously monitored and improved where necessary,” explained Martin Drews, managing director of Die Papierindustrie....
