Some calm has been restored to Germany’s recovered paper (RCP) market, at least for the moment. As expected, prices for bulk grades remained almost unchanged in November after tumbling from August to October. And insiders think that prices for the grades mixed paper and board and supermarket paper, and board will hold in December, as well. Slightly higher prices might even emerge in a few instances.

The massive plunge in prices seen in previous months had already been halted in November. A combination of factors – brisker demand from the paper industry, comparatively low arisings in Germany and much livelier exports to the Far East – culminated in largely stable prices for bulk grades....
