German PET recycling market stable in July

July was a satisfactory month for PET recyclers in Germany, mainly thanks to demand from bottlers and preform manufacturers. Overall, the market had run smoothly in terms of sales and purchasing, respondents told EUWID.

Prices for flakes remained on the previous month’s level. Post-consumer bottles were also often purchased at June‘s prices, but there were also transactions where price changes were agreed.

High freight rates for container shipments from the Far East meant that there was little demand for lower-priced primary PET from Asia. The absence of price jumps for European primary material also contributed to stability, according to market participants.

As in June, clear PET flakes remained in demand from the beverage industry, while film manufacturers once again exercised restraint.

The availability of post-consumer PET bottles was good in July, but not as high as some had previously expected. According to several market participants, the European Football Championship failed to have an effect on bottle arisings.
