There is not much movement on Germany’s recovered paper market at present, with prices for mixed paper (1.02) and supermarket paper and board (1.04) staying mostly unchanged in February. Sellers can secure slightly higher prices for 1.04, in particular, especially in areas convenient for exporting. On the other hand, prices for graphic recovered paper grades remain under pressure.
The market is proving well-balanced for 1.02 and 1.04 in February. Market participants described demand from German paper mills as still subdued in most cases. Hardly any paper machines are offline at the moment, but sources estimated that they are operating at an average of just 80 per cent of their capacity.
Recycling and waste management companies are not currently under any pressure when selling their recovered paper. Collection volumes are much lower again after January brought its typically high arisings.
What’s more, supermarket paper and board continues to head for export markets. EUWID respondents mostly listed South-East Asia and India as destinations, but repeatedly made mention of Turkey, too. All in all, demand and, in some cases, prices are said to have fallen somewhat on the export market of late, impacted in part by preparations for Ramadan and the end of the Chinese New Year festivities. Nonetheless, export prices reportedly remain competitive with domestic prices.
