In France, the June price hike for ordinary grades of recovered paper was rolled back again in July. Although demand for these grades is still said to be decent, it has reportedly softened slightly overall. The market for deinking grades, by contrast, was broadly unchanged and prices here were stable.
The same was true for many of the higher grades. There were occasional slight price increases, though.
For many months, the market for corrugated case material and for packaging in general has been slowing in France, which means less recovered paper is needed now than in the boom times. Collection volumes are also lower. Demand for recovered paper has settled in at a level that still enables relatively high prices.
But after some months of rising prices, July ushered in a trend turnaround. With the holiday month of August on the doorstep and demand from abroad somewhat lower, prices for ordinary grades were trimmed slightly.
