The rally on the metal exchanges has paused. While the LME copper price reached a record high of just under US$14,100 per tonne around mid-May, the price has since fallen by around US$700. Prices on the non-ferrous recycling market have also declined.

According to the news agency MBI, the wholesale buying-in price for copper scrap fell by €30 per 100 kilograms on the German market in the past week. Prices for brass scrap declined by €10 and those for red brass scrap fell by €20 per 10 kilograms.

Moving against the trend, the purchase price for zinc scrap increased by €5 per 100 kilograms. Wholesale prices for the aluminium scrap grades covered by MBI moved sideways for the second consecutive week. The same applied to the stainless steel scrap grades V2A and V4A.
