Logistics problems and tight supply drive RCP prices in Germany higher

Very tense situation, especially for graphic grades

As expected, prices for all recovered paper (RCP) grades rose again on the German market in May – and significantly in some cases. Industry observers attribute the increases to a shortage of volumes and especially to high logistics costs and tight freight capacity. And since collection volumes decreased over the course of May, June is expected to bring similar – or potentially even higher – mark-ups.

Demand from paper mills was strong and unwavering in May. Although arisings of ordinary grades were reportedly "not as bad" as in the previous month, the industry was scrambling to cope with "enormous transport bottlenecks".
