Non-ferrous scrap follows exchange price signal lower

At the start of last week, prices on the metal exchanges were pointing sharply downward. Whether copper, aluminium, zinc or nickel – the prices for the base metals were headed lower. The declines triggered a drop in non-ferrous scrap prices as well.

According to the news agency MBI, the wholesale buying-in prices for copper scrap slid €10 per 100 kg last week. Brass scrap and old zinc grades lost €5 in weekly comparison. The same was true for the higher aluminium scrap grades.

On the sales side, the German metal traders' association VDM reported a substantial decrease in prices for the copper grade Kabul, which fell by €220 per tonne. Prices for brass scrap (Milbe) tumbled by €150, while those for old zinc scrap slid by €70-130 per tonne....
