German PET recyclers are growing ever more deeply concerned. Demand from beverage bottle producers remained well short of expectations in April, while sales for film, fibre and packaging strapping applications are still in low gear. Without exception, market players said that demand was much too low for the time of year across all sectors. They have been hoping for an improvement in business since October.
Insiders blamed the state of the market on cheap imports of primary PET from Asia and deliveries of certified flakes, regranulate from Asia and Turkey, and much cooler demand in the wake of the recession. Compounding matters, a few recyclers have large inventories, which are eating away at liquidity....
