On the Polish recovered paper market, prices for all reported grades rose monthly from March to June. The effects were most pronounced for supermarket paper and board and sorted graphic paper for deinking. Buyers were very nervous at times during the second quarter. In May especially, paper mills had trouble sourcing sufficient recovered paper during the short working weeks caused by the many public holidays and bridge days. This led to a "price explosion", according to one expert.
The situation on the overheating Polish market was further intensified by some recovered paper merchants holding back goods in anticipation of further hikes. "The bad thing in such phases is the more we raise prices, the less paper gets delivered to us," commented one paper producer....
