The state of Germany’s PET recycling market stayed largely the same in August, with few changes compared with July. Bottlers and preform manufacturers continued to make purchases, keeping demand for PET flakes at high levels.
A few recyclers told EUWID that they were sold out, which made it possible to successfully fend off buyers’ attempts to reduce prices.
Insiders expect demand to remain robust in September. That being said, with the peak of the beverage season now behind us, pressure on prices might increase as PET film manufacturers are increasingly opting for primary material, which costs up to €200/t less than high-quality flakes and recently became a little cheaper.
Warm weather in Germany in recent weeks has helped boost supply of post-consumer PET bottles, which was reflected in price cuts on the spot market.
