As expected, the German post-consumer PET bottle recycling market was quiet at the end of the year. Recyclers’ sales volumes are still suffering because primary PET is inexpensive and cheaper offerings of flakes are readily available from other European countries. In December, not all PET recyclers in Germany were producing at full capacity, so they were often reluctant to purchase spot volumes. Some companies continue to have large inventories of bottles and flakes. As previously reported, the sales crisis has prompted some recyclers to curtail their operations beginning in January or to reschedule planned maintenance for the current month....
