PET producers and converters in Germany reported weak demand from the beverage industry in mid-September, while order intake from other consumer segments was stable. Overall, PET supply exceeded demand. Increased competition from Asia and Africa was reported for recycled PET (rPET) suitable for food-contact applications.
Prices for virgin PET have decreased significantly since the end of July. "Prices are in free fall," one market participant told EUWID.
