Prices for recovered paper largely stable on French market in August

|

August had no surprises in store for France’s recovered paper market. Following a steep fall in prices for ordinary recovered paper grades in July, buyers and sellers agreed to keep prices steady in August. It was a quiet month, with demand a little subdued, as is typical for the summer holiday season.

The market for deinking grades and high grades also remained calm in France, with no changes in pricing. Slack demand from neighbouring countries meant that prices for exports of sorted graphic paper for deinking were the only ones to weaken somewhat.

The market for ordinary recovered paper grades stabilised in August. Even though several EUWID sources said that there would have been leeway for another small price cut, mixed paper and board (1.02), supermarket paper and board (1.04) and old corrugated container (1.05; OCC) prices remained unchanged. Exports to Asia were continuing, but demand was not described as especially lively.

On the whole, ample material was available, several buyers noted. Recycling and waste management companies confirmed that there were no supply issues, although they themselves had low or at just about decent inventories of recovered paper.
