Q1 brings swift rise in supermarket paper and board prices on Polish recovered paper market

|

The tide has completely turned on Poland’s recovered paper market in recent weeks. Supermarket paper and board prices, which fell significantly in the final quarter of 2024 before stabilising at a low level in early 2025, began to soar in March.

Market players noted, though, that the year had begun on a quiet note. The market saw balanced supply and demand, largely due to higher availability resulting from material that had gone uncollected in the December period. A shortage then emerged starting in mid-February, which intensified dramatically one month later, insiders told EUWID.

As March drew to a close, merchants told EUWID that paper mills in Poland and neighbouring countries were in panic mode, prompting a sharp rise in prices – in some cases driven by speculation.

The quarterly EUWID report on the recovered paper market in Poland covers supermarket paper and board (1.04), new shavings of corrugated board (4.01), graphic paper for deinking (1.11) and white woodfree uncoated shavings (3.18.01).
