Recovered paper demand in Italy still lacklustre

Recycled paper and cartonboard markets remain very subdued in Italy in November. Downtimes are routinely being taken at paper and board mills, and hardly any recovered paper is needed. There was an easing on the Far East export market for recovered paper, primarily with regard to prices, but the region still provided a key outlet for Italian volumes.

Against this backdrop, suppliers either managed to keep prices for ordinary recovered paper grades on the Italian market the same as in October or eliminated peak prices. Markets for deinking grades and high grades were relatively balanced, with no price movement reported in November.

Demand for recovered paper within Italy has not improved. Recycled paper and board mills are still taking downtime every now and then because of sluggish consumption. Continuing the practice seen in recent months, mills were purchasing only minimal amounts of ordinary recovered paper grades in November.
