Recovered paper prices in Germany are rising again this month – at least for the ordinary grades – but the mark-ups are nowhere near as hefty as they were in previous months. In June, the price upticks for mixed paper and supermarket paper and board are expected to be €5-10 per tonne.
In May, there was still considerable upheaval on the recovered paper market, not least owing to the various public holidays and the resulting logistics bottlenecks. Now, business has returned to normal and freight capacity is more readily available again, market participants say.
Nevertheless, recovered paper prices – at least for the ordinary grades – continue to rise in the current month. Yet, the size of the mark-ups reportedly varies depending on the region and starting level. On the one hand, the extreme peak prices that were being asked in certain instances in May can no longer be achieved. On the other hand, buyers at paper mills are often still willing to compromise on prices in order to secure adequate recovered paper stocks.
