In April, the British recovered paper market proved to be more stable than many market players had anticipated in March. The market was largely balanced with little sign of turbulence, especially for the brown bulk grades, experts told EUWID.
One key factor is container shipping rates on sea routes to Asia, which have either held steady or even decreased in some cases. Exports of recovered paper and board from the UK to Asia were generally moving smoothly, with only minor isolated problems, in any event experiencing fewer issues than many insiders had been concerned about in March.
Since recovered paper shipments from the Gulf region to Asia remain at a standstill as the USA and Iran continue their blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, Asian paper mills remain reliant on imports from Europe and the United States.
Market participants reported no change in prices for recovered paper for deinking on the British market in April. Medium and high grades were also largely stable.
