Recovered paper prices in France stabilised at the start of the new year. While some regions of Europe are already seeing prices for ordinary grades head along upward trajectories, driven by rising export prices, quotes in France remain unchanged. On the whole, supply and demand were relatively balanced for these grades.
Prices for sorted graphic paper for deinking as well as for the higher grades were also stable in January. Here, there were no significant changes in the market conditions.
The new year got off to a tranquil start for players on the French recovered paper market. Some paper producers had taken downtimes during the holiday season and there were some transport bottlenecks over the Christmas and New Year’s period because fewer lorry drivers are available during this time. Business therefore only really picked up as of the second week of January, several market participants noted.
