Recovered paper prices in Italy remain unchanged in March

|

Developments on the Italian recovered paper market in March were primarily shaped by the outbreak of war in Iran and debate over the possible effect of surging energy prices. While business was still being conducted as usual in March, there was uncertainty about how the situation would evolve.

For players in the recovered paper and board market, the spike in energy prices first became apparent in logistics costs. Shipping lines announced higher freight charges shortly after the outbreak of hostilities in the Gulf region, market participants say.

Prices in March were stable for all grades of recovered paper covered by EUWID. Market participants found it exceptionally difficult to make forecasts about possible price movements in the coming month given the many uncertainties.
