Scrap metal merchants report falling prices at the start of the year

The LME copper price reached a five-month high at the end of December. Since then, prices have fallen again. Scrap metal prices are also softening.

Since jumping in mid-December, the copper price on the London Metal Exchange has retreated. Scrap metal traders in Germany also reported falling scrap prices in Germany for the first week of the new calendar year.

According to the news service MBI, wholesale buying-in prices for copper and brass scrap fell compared to the last week of December. Zinc and lead scrap prices also slipped in weekly comparison, while prices for the aluminium scrap grades remained stable.
