Shortage of graphic recovered paper grades causes price hikes in France

No change for ordinary grades in May

Demand for recovered paper (RCP) in France remains good, but supply is limited. There are particularly noticeable shortages of deinking grades and higher grades, which became sometimes significantly more expensive in May. By contrast, the market for ordinary grades was relatively balanced.

Prices for mixed paper (1.02), supermarket paper and board (1.04) and old corrugated containers (1.05) were stable in May compared with April levels. There is now a significant gap to the prices in Germany, where quotes apparently rose slightly in May. As a result, several market participants expect that prices in France will have to catch up eventually – possibly as early as June....
