Stable prices on Italy’s recovered paper market

|

February is proving to be a month without any particular developments for Italy’s recovered paper market. Suppliers and buyers sometimes gave slightly different assessments of recovered paper availability, but overall, the market was balanced. The export business likewise brought no surprises.

Prices for mixed paper and board (1.02), supermarket paper and board (1.04), and old corrugated containers (OCC; 1.05) in February remained at January’s levels, all EUWID sources said. Several market players noted that a few recycling and waste management companies had attempted to raise prices at the start of the month, but these attempts ultimately came to nothing.

All things considered, demand was not strong enough to justify price increases. Exports to Asia continued, but volumes were not any higher than before. At the same time though, collection volumes were generally described as low in February. Moreover, heavy rainfall in recent weeks has further limited the the amount of collected material that is usuable.
