The downward price trend for brown ordinary recovered paper grades in the UK continued to ease in December. This trend was underpinned by slightly higher prices that Asian paper mills were willing to pay for North American old corrugated containers (OCC).
Prices for deinking grades remain stable amid decent demand from British converters, while price pressure continues to be felt for woodfree and pulp substitution grades amid low demand.
Additional uncertainty in the UK market stems from delays in extended producer responsibility (EPR) registration for packaging, which are complicating export planning for January and could trigger temporary export disruptions and sharper price declines.
