PET recycling in Germany: more price pressure in December

The reduced number of working days in December added further pressure to the PET recycling market, affecting prices for both flakes and post-consumer bottles in Germany. Demand for flakes and regranulate remained subdued, with some recyclers continuing to build up inventories. For January, some segments of the industry are already anticipating a recovery in demand, while others do not expect any improvement before February.

As anticipated, sales volumes for flakes were lower in December, as processors were often reluctant to end the financial year with higher inventories. At the start of the new year, recyclers were said to largely be cautiously optimistic with regard to the next few weeks....
