Policy and enforcement

The European and international recycling and waste management markets are shaped by policy decisions. Environmental policy and regulation can create new markets and opportunities, and impact international waste and secondary raw material flows and the day-to-day running of individual businesses.

On the European level, EUWID follows legislative projects from an early stage and reports on the entire process – from initial drafts to the entry into force and implementation. The Commission's new Circular Economy Action Plan has set the European agenda for next five years. We follow the development of waste-specific legislation, for materials such as plastics, waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE) and batteries, as well as tracking changes in rules for transboundary waste shipments, including developments at the OECD and Basel Convention, and import policies in important sales markets.
