All EU member states warned for failing to meet recycling and collection targets

The European Commission had already warned last year that numerous member states were in danger of failing to reach the targets set out in EU waste legislation. On 25 July, the Commission announced that it was opening infringement proceedings against all 27 EU member states and sending them letters of formal notice for failing to meet waste collection and recycling targets.

According to the Commission, the countries have not yet reached the minimum targets for separate collection and recycling laid down in the EU Waste Framework Directive (WFD), the Directive on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWD) and/or the Directive on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE Directive)....
