Commission steps up action against France over Triman label

The Commission sees France's requirements regarding the use of the "Triman" symbol on packaging as a barrier the free movement of goods within the EU.

The European Commission has advanced to the second stage of infringement proceedings against France because of its national labelling requirements for the source-separation of waste. In the EU authority's view, France's "Triman" logo and the "Infotri" label is not compatible with the free movement of goods. Having addressed a letter of formal notice to the French government in 2023, the Commission has now decided to issue a reasoned opinion setting France a deadline of two months to respond. If the member state fails to take the necessary measures, the Commission may decide to refer the case to the Court of Justice of the European Union (ECJ)....
