The European Parliament's Environment and Internal Market Committees met on Monday evening to vote on their joint draft for the EU End-of-Life Vehicle Regulation (ELVR). Proposed by the previous Commission in July 2023, the legislation is intended to address a broad range of circularity issues related to vehicles, including the recycling of plastics and metals, the incorporation of recycled content and the reduction of the number of untraceable vehicles and of ELV exports.
In their remarks before the Committee vote, co-rapporteurs Jens Gieseke (EPP, ENVI) and Paulius Saudargas (EP, IMCO) stressed the efforts that had been made to gather a broad majority behind the compromise on which the full Parliament is expected to vote in September.
"Our aim was to take everyone on board, at least all that we could – the political groups, the industry. We should take into account the whole automotive sector. I think the whole file is quite balanced," Mr Saudargas said. He was optimistic that following the scheduled plenary vote in September, inter-institutional talks with representatives of the member states could be wrapped up by the end of the year....
