The European Commission has issued a draft of an implementing decision that is to define how recycled content in plastic will be calculated when the recyclate stems from chemical recycling processes. A motion for a resolution in the European Parliament, which raised objections to this draft, did not find sufficient support at the plenary session of the last week. The final tally stood at 339 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) against only 243 in favour, with 47 abstaining.
In the previous week, the EU Parliament’s Environment Committee had approved the text of the motion for a resolution by a narrow majority. However, even if the motion had been adopted by the Parliament, the resolution would not have had any binding consequences for the European Commission....
