EU negotiating teams reach provisional agreement on limit values for POPs in waste

European Parliament and Council representatives have tentatively agreed on new limit values for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) in waste. Their provisional compromise now has to be approved by the European Parliament’s plenary and by the member states so that it can be formally adopted and take effect following publication in the EU Official Journal. The European Parliament is scheduled to vote on the deal after the summer break; then the Council will decide.

The concentration limits determine whether waste can be recycled or must instead be disposed of and therefore affect the management of materials including waste plastics from electrical and electronic equipment or end-of-life vehicles....
