France abandons plans for ban on PS packaging due to PPWR

The French government will refrain from applying a national ban on polystyrene packaging which would have gone into effect at the start of 2025. The decision was announced in the French official gazette on 28 September.

Amendments to France's Environmental Code stipulate that from 1 January 2025, packaging made entirely or partially from polystyrene or copolymers that cannot be recycled will be banned. The French Ministry of the Environment now no longer plans to enforce this provision of the law given the risk of conflicts with the future EU Regulation on Packaging and Packaging Waste (PPWR)....
