The European indeed plans to withdraw the circular economy package. Instead, the EU authority plans to table a "more ambitious proposal" next year, said its First Vice-President Frans Timmermans on Tuesday afternoon in Strasbourg presenting the Commission's work programme for 2015 to the European Parliament.

"What we want to do is actually to ensure that circular economy is approached indeed in circular way and not just half the circle", the Dutch politician commented. He promised that the Commission would not "drag its feet" and table the new proposal in 2015. Mr Timmermans did not comment on when next year the new proposal is to be put forward.
