The European Parliament's Environment Committee has held its constitutive meeting on Tuesday and elected its new chair and vice-chairs. Italian MEP Antonio Decaro from the social-democratic S&D Group was elected the Committee's new chairman. He is a first-time member of the European Parliament (EP) and was mayor of the southern Italian city of Bari for the past ten years.
"We must not lose sight of the extraordinary challenges we face," Mr Decaro commented after the vote. "Not only the future of our continent is at stake, but also a new global approach to planetary resources. That is why we will work to fully achieve the Green Deal. We are facing an ambitious but not impossible challenge."...
