The European Commission explained the actions that it plans to take to make the EU more competitive and secure prosperity without abandoning its climate goals. In its Competitiveness Compass published on Wednesday, the EU authority announces measures to promote innovation, support and decarbonise industrial manufacturing, and increase security and reduce excessive dependencies. At the same time, the Commission plans to reduce red tape and barriers to the single market.
When it comes to planned industrial policy measures, the Commission also underscores the potential of the circular economy that has to be tapped. "Resource efficiency and boosting circular use of materials helps decarbonisation, competitiveness and economic security," the strategy paper states. The Commission also repeats a call for Europe "to aim to create a single market for waste, secondary and reusable materials, to increase efficiency and expand recycling" in the document....
