Repatriation of German waste dumped in Czechia enters final phase

Clean-up at the site in Horní Heršpice-Brno is expected to run two to three weeks.

Some 282 tonnes of illegally imported waste are to be repatriated from the Czech Republic to Germany in the coming weeks. The first lorryload of the material left a dump site in the Brno district of Horní Heršpice on Monday. According to the Czech Ministry of the Environment, the waste was transported to the site between June and the end of 2024 by the Bavarian company Roth International. The costs of returning the material are being borne by the Germany side, the ministry said in a Wednesday statement.

The waste is linked to material dumped at a second site in north-eastern Czechia....

Rebound in German foreign trade in waste plastics in first half of 2025
Germany imported and exported significantly more waste plastics in the first half of 2025 than a year earlier. Imports rose by 16 per cent and exports by 13 per cent, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis).
