The Swedish government eliminated the country's waste incineration tax effective 1 January 2023. The tax on waste for incineration or co-incineration, which stood at SEK125/t per tonne at the end of last year, equivalent to about €11.50, was paid by plant operators. Introduced in April 2020, the measure intended to achieve "more resource-efficient and non-toxic waste management in accordance with the waste hierarchy". The lifting of the incineration tax and of the energy and carbon taxes on bio-oil were among many measures adopted on 13 December as part of the framework decision for Sweden's 2023 budget. ...
