The European Union is in a fight for its future, according to Commission president Ursula von der Leyen. In the first State of the Union speech of her new mandate, she highlighted the geopolitical challenges facing the EU in a world "where battle lines for a new world order based on power are being drawn right now" and in which "many major powers are either ambivalent or openly hostile to Europe". She pointed to "imperial ambitions and imperial wars", and the ruthless weaponisation of dependencies....
