Aker to design CCS system for Oslo energy from waste plant

The companies Aker Carbon Capture and Aker Solutions announced on Monday that they have signed a front-end engineering (FEED) contract for a carbon capture system to be built at a waste-to-energy (wte) facility near Oslo, Norway. The Klemetsrud plant has a permitted capacity of 350,000 tonnes of waste per year and the future CCS facility will be designed to capture up to 400,000 tonnes of CO2 per year. The final investment decision is expected next summer.

The FEED contract was awarded by the wte plant's operator, Hafslund Oslo Celsio (Celsio), which operated as Fortum Oslo Varme until it was purchased by the City of Oslo's hydropower company Hafslund Eco and its co-investors last year.
